A palimpsest is an ancient manuscript in which an older text has been erased to make room for a new one. However, traces or remnants of the original text often remain visible. Similarly, the history of the Roman theater in Mainz reflects this artifact, as it remained undiscovered for a long time and its excavations were repeatedly interrupted. Today, only remnants of the original theater are visible. The central concept of (Dis-)Continuity is embodied by the Roman theater,  where human interventions disrupt the site. Construction work, informational signs, and passing trains disturb the visual continuity and raise questions about the preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage.
