Against the backdrop of the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, a Washington Post article recounts the story of the young Afghan Fada who lost his life while attempting to cling to a departing American military plane. Footage of the aircraft is drawn from Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove (1968), a film that satirizes Cold War tensions as a rogue U.S. general initiates a nuclear strike on the Soviet Union. The work is further layered with a soundtrack of American pop classics spanning three decades.
